What was the key
to all of this?

My creativity… and a bucket tonne of patience – haha. It was nothing to do with my business acumen, sales tactics, or understanding of the golden fucking ratio. Creativity was my edge… in fact, it was the only thing I had over the competition. To stand out, I knew I had to be different, execute briefs differently, and find creative ways to start conversations.

I learned to cut the crap and treat people like equals, not like I was the only one with a clue! My ego definitely tripped me up on some projects and relationships in the early days, but those moments taught me a lot. I learned to curate my taste, shape my environment, and embraced illogical thinking to make progress.

Now, don’t
get me wrong…

….the business side of creativity is important, and there are many great people teaching that already. But without the ability to stand out for your creativity, all the ‘business smarts’ in the world won’t matter. If you’re not chosen, you’re forgotten. In this industry, your ability to generate and execute imaginative ideas will set you apart… it’s your creative currency! Without it, no matter how skilled you are at sales, you risk becoming replaceable.

Creativity isn’t just for your clients—it can infuse into your own marketing, relationships, and life. It will support you when the unpredictable real world comes knocking. Thinking differently will make you stand out in the sea of sameness. As when you become logical, you become predictable; and when you become predictable, you become replaceable.
