How to connect with your audience and remain relevant

Today I wanted to share some juicy goodness in and around the topic of legacy building. There are many ways in which we can do this, but today I want to focus on two words… connection and relevance.

Just like you, I am in a constant battle with marketing, social media, client pressures, business building and working towards my bigger purpose on the daily… it’s a tough job being a creative human – haha.

So, I wanted to offer a little helping hand today to help you navigate the pressures we face every day and share some stuff I have learned over the years that I put into practice daily.

HOW TO CONNECT WITH YOUR AUDIENCE

One of the biggest issues I see on social media is people are spending so much time telling someone else’s story. The need to ‘be famous’ or ‘be seen as an expert’ is making them impossible to connect with as nothing that they are sharing is true to them.

I have found the best way to connect with my audience and clients is to constantly tell my story… the good, the bad and the indifferent. I show people the WHOLE MBJ online, not just the part that makes me look like a freakin’ boss.

What this does is show that I am human. People want to work with people that they can connect with! People don’t want to work with people that pretend to have all their shit figured out.

Now, I am not saying you need to share your deepest darkest secrets online, but you can change up your content and language to share more of your authentic self with the people watching.

Work on sharing The Fun, The Facts and The Feelings.

Share your work in detail using your epic storytelling ability.

Share how your work has solved a problem that your client was having.

Share how you feel about the industry you are in.

Share your journey and the story that has got you to this point.

The best way to connect with people is to share all the people you are.

HOW TO STAY RELEVANT IN AN EVER-EVOLVING SPACE

Let’s be honest: no one can predict the future. Two years ago, all “the experts” predicted we would all be crypto, NFT, and Web 3 robots by now. That took a turn for the worse for them, didn’t it?

My point here is that whilst it’s important to think about the future and how the landscape is changing, it’s also important to focus on what’s possible today… in the now.

Placing your bet solely on a possible future landscape is not savvy business. I have seen people go from logo designers to brand strategists to NFT artists to AI gurus all in the space of three years. They are constantly moving onto ‘the next big thing’ rather than becoming ‘the big thing’ themselves.

I watched a documentary with a chap called Bob Iger, and he said something that has always stuck with me: ” Keep one foot in the present and one foot in the future.”

I personally believe you remain relevant by practising what you preach every day. You remain relevant when you truly care about your industry and when you ignore irrelevant shiny objects. You have to stay in your lane.

At my core, I will always be a creative human with a focus on brand identity. What will always evolve is how I share my ideas, how I educate my industry and the technology I use to do that.

Hope this helps my mates.
